Omaha Break-Ins and Home Security
Omaha police recorded 26 homicides in 2025, with a 100 percent clearance rate for the third straight year. Overall crime fell about 10 percent after a 14 percent drop in 2024. Those are citywide numbers. They are not a reason to leave a Dundee side door unlocked on a Tuesday while you sit on I-80.
Citywide numbers, not a street-by-street scorecard
Mayor John W. Ewing Jr. is in office. Police Chief Todd Schmaderer leads the Omaha Police Department. Property crime drove most of the 2025 decline. Violent crime was nearly flat. The reason people still order is occupancy: porch packages, a tried door, and houses that sit empty after drop-off or a commute on I-80, I-680, or West Dodge.
We do not publish neighborhood crime rates. A Dundee house and a Millard ranch do not share a rate we would invent. Order for the hours you are gone.
Porch boxes and weekday empties
Walkable streets are why people add a doorbell. Dundee, Aksarben, Benson, and Old Market houses collect boxes on porches while owners are at work, on I-80, or downtown. A camera you check yourself is useful. It is not the same as ADT calling you when a door opens.
The system is for the hours no one is looking out the window — not a claim that Papillion or Elkhorn is dangerous.
School calendars empty the house too
Omaha Public Schools drop-off empties in-city two-stories. Millard, Bellevue, Papillion-La Vista, Elkhorn, and Gretna calendars empty those towns until pickup. A UNO or UNMC class day empties nearby doors the same way. That is when people want the system armed.
Who comes if an alarm trips in Omaha?
ADT can request help based on the alert type. Inside the city that is typically Omaha Police. Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Elkhorn, and county desks dispatch differently. Confirm the office from your ZIP. City of Omaha Chapter 25 is $25 a year. We do not invent a dollar for a city we have not confirmed.
